Supporting the gsa

We are grateful to the Pender Island School for acknowledging the importance of providing a safe, supportive learning environment for all students, regardless of their gender-identity or sexual orientation, by establishing a GSA (Gender & Sexuality Alliance) student group.

GSAs are safe spaces where LGBTQ2S+ & QUESTIONING students and their friends and allies, can go for information, support, and camaraderie.  These programs have been shown to help young people deal with the stresses and anxieties that can accompany self-discovery;  thereby helping them to make positive choices and go on to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

Pender Island Pride is proud to be liaising with the school administration and providing resources to support the local GSA program.

Respectful Diversity Workshops:  Empowering Rural LGBT+ Youth to Survive and Thrive

Pender Island Pride successfully applied for a grant from the BC Government to fund multiple workshop presentations that will promote healthy life choices among youth and their families in our community.  We are collaborating with SWOVA to develop and facilitate these workshops, which are planned to be presented this autumn, or whenever it becomes safe to do so due to the COVID-19 guidelines.

community building social events, etc.

Some ideas are in the works for regular social events and support groups.  Details will be posted here as they are firmed up.  Let us know if you would like to help plan or host.
